HAITI PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE DNC

12:00 to 1:00 PM

There will be a Haiti Press Conference at the DNC in Boston on July 27, 2004 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the Media Arts Building, 1234 Columbus Avenue, Roxbury Community College, Roxbury, MA 02120.

Presented by the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network, Haitkaah Social Justice Project, Haiti Action Committee, the New England Human Rights Coalition for Haiti and A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition (Act Now To Stop War and End Racism).

The press conference follows a morning Haiti Forum on "The Haitian-American Connection," - a cultural and political event to inform and educate the DNC Delegates and to honor Haiti and those organizations, persons and political entities who stood for Haiti's Democracy and sovereignty In 2004, Haiti's Bi-Centennial year.

Haiti Action Committee - New England Human Rights Organization for Haiti.

Press conference speakers will address the current humanitarian disaster, brutal repression and human rights violations in Haiti; the unconstitutional removal of Haiti's democratically elected government and the role of the US government in the deliberate destabilization of the Haitian government and the implementation of the coup.

New human rights reports, testimonies and information shall be distributed and the event sponsors will collectively present the Haiti Resolution urging the Democratic Party and nominee to include these six-points in its platform:

  • Return Constitutional rule to Haiti
  • Stop the killings of Lavalas supporters
  • Release all the political prisoners
  • Disarm, prosecute and bring the death squads, convicted killers and thugs to justice
  • Help rebuild the Haitian police excluding from its ranks those who helped to overthrow the democratically elected government or any known human rights violators
  • Give temporary asylum (TPS) to the fleeing Haitian refugees
  • Support the call by the OAS/CARICOM and by Congresswoman Barbara Lee's T.R.U.T.H. Act - HR 3919 for an investigation into the overthrow of Haiti's democracy.

  • To tell the truth about the February 29, 2004 Coup D'etat...
  • To honor those who stood for Haiti these last four unendurable months...
  • To present the Haiti Resolution*...
  • To explain to Kerry why tripling the NED budget is the last thing that would bring "democracy" to Haiti or Latin America...
  • To make sure this time the Black vote COUNTS somewhere in this Hemisphere...
  • And, as pioneers in the human rights struggle on this Hemisphere, to pave the 2004 Bwa-Kayiman-road that will lead to the return of Constitutional rule to Haiti.
